Focus on Illustrators part 2–Kazu Kibuishi

Published May 8, 2015 by neverwearmatchingsox

If you have an elementary or middle school kiddo, you may have heard Amulet being thrown around your literary household….if not, then let me share the beauty of Kazu Kibuishi with you.  In addition to being author and illustrator of Amulet, Kazu also was chosen to redesign the Harry Potter covers for Scholastic in 2013…and being an avid Harry Potter fan I was anxious to see what these new covers would be like.  In my humble opinion, they are amazing.  There a few different ways for you to experience Kazu..his website Bolt City is where you find out current information (http://boltcity.com/), Gallery Nucleus has his art work for sale (http://www.gallerynucleus.com/artist/kazu_kibuishi), Scholastic has a page for him (http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/bookwizard/books-by/kazu-kibuishi#cart/cleanup) and just recently I discovered that he has signed a 3 book deal with Scholastic Graphix to celebrate Graphix 10 years in the industry (http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/comics/article/65449-new-telgemier-kibuishi-deals-mark-graphix-s-10-year-anniversary.html).

The Books of Elsewhere by Jacqueline West

Published March 24, 2015 by neverwearmatchingsox

Sometimes all it takes is a 2nd chance and you could find yourself inside a very fun, edge of your seat read. Lucky for me I felt required to try again as this is on the OBOB list for 2015/16 and a kiddo at school is reading it and he in enjoying it very much.
Olive and her parents have moved into the old McMartin house…a house that neighbors won’t go in to…a house with a mind of it’s own.  This is a ghost story that isn’t too scary; a book of friendship and a book of discovering you may be stronger than you think.
This book has it all….fun cats….a strong female lead…adventure…mystery, fantasy and a spooky house.

This was such a fun book to read.  Can’t wait to read the rest!

Midnight by Erin Hunter

Published September 20, 2013 by neverwearmatchingsox

Here is the first of my “guest” posts.  This is written by Kenda V.

Midnight (Warriors: The New Prophecy, #1)     The first book from the warrior series new prophecy.
The story is about a warrior cat named Brambleclaw of Thunderclan  that had a dream from Starclan and has to go on an adventure three warriors and an apprentice that have  the same dream. The three warriors are Feathertail, Stormfur from Riverclan and Tawnypelt Shadowclan. The one apprentice
was named Crowpaw of Windclan . Meanwhile a medicine cat named Cinderpelt saw a prophecy on how fire and tiger destroy. Cinderpelt thought it meant a daughter of Firestar (Squirrelpaw ) and a son of  tigerclaw ( Brambleclaw ) will destroy the forest. Firestar tried hard to keep Squirrelpaw away from
Brambleclaw. But Squirrelpaw disobeyed and went on the adventure .

I suggest you be at least 8 and up to read this book it includes intense violence or you have to handle violence. This is an awesome book that shows you a secret life of a cat and how they live without  a human. The cat you maybe holding right now may have warrior blood…. Just kidding ( maybe ) but seriously this is an amazing book. For those people who love adventure stories I highly recommend this book.
